National Certificate of Achievement NCEA 2024
    Level 1, 2 & 3 NCEA are 60 credit qualifications.

In addition, there is a 10 credit literacy and a 10 credit numeracy requirement to gain NCEA. These 20 credits do not count towards the 60 credit qualification and only need to be gained once. At Mahurangi College, students are offered their first opportunity to gain these credits during year 10. There are multiple opportunities to gain these credits at every year level.
Level One at Mahurangi College 2024.
Many schools across New Zealand are reshaping their Level One programmes; some are not offering any Level One NCEA credits, some a few and some a full programme of NCEA standards.

At Mahurangi College, Level One is now fully focussed on developing both depth and breadth within the course, preparing students for their level 2, full NCEA course. At year 11, most courses will offer students 10 credits. The advantage of offering fewer NCEA credits lies in providing more time for teachers and students to learn the content and skills, spending less time on NCEA assessment. Most students are not expected to gain level 1 NCEA in year 11. They will be able to gain level 2 NCEA in their year 12 programme. For some, they will gain their level 1.
    Level One:
Students will sit 6 subjects. English and maths are compulsory; science is strongly recommended.
    Level Two:
Students will sit 6 subjects. English is compulsory.
    Level Three:
Students will sit 5 subjects. There are no compulsory subjects.
    University Entrance:
Gaining entrance to university study has some specific requirements. These are:
    • A minimum of 10 credits at level 2 or higher in literacy - 5 reading credits and 5 writing credits.
    • A minimum of 10 credits at level 1 or higher in numeracy.
    • Achievement of Level 3 NCEA including at least 14 credits from each of three university approved subjects.
